Pathogenic Lungs Guide: Airflow, Room Pressure & Pre-Heart Build Check
The Lungs compress safe firing time by combining airflow, projectiles and a wider room pool. A reliable build reads the hazard first and then ends the room with a damage chain that can start without a kill.
SECTION 01
Why the difficulty jumps
The 22 July update added 20 Lungs rooms and retuned alveolar macrophages, fungal spores and bacteria variants. Older footage cannot represent the full pool, so a repeatable observation order matters more than memorizing a layout.
Recent players still report a sharp Liver-to-Lungs jump. The usual failure is not missing one Legendary weapon; it is slow startup, stationary output, no movement reserve after airflow, or a chain that needs kills.
- On entry, identify airflow, persistent hazards and an exit lane.
- Do not spend the only dodge before you know the push direction.
SECTION 02
Run a four-part readiness check
Check startup, delivery, movement and boss uptime. Damage should begin within seconds, continue when targets shift, leave stamina for safe turns, and work without kills or pickups.
If the Liver depended on one lucky burst, repair range, guidance, area, control or energy before adding another disconnected weapon.
- Review the last three Liver rooms and name every hit taken.
- Remove one secondary weapon and compare stamina and links.
- Test the main chain without kill triggers.
- Keep at least one safety layer: movement, armor, freeze or invulnerability.
SECTION 03
Execute an airflow room in order
Move along an edge first, read the push, then choose the firing lane. Ranged builds should cross the area where enemies will remain; melee builds must treat airflow as a second enemy and avoid being pushed back into a hazard after the dodge ends.
Kill projectile, summon or space-denial enemies first. High damage reduces exposure only when it lands consistently. Lower player-attack opacity and adjust camera zoom if visual noise hides the room.
- Observe the push and safe edge.
- Choose a position with a downstream exit.
- Remove pressure-generating enemies.
- Save one dodge for the exit or next safe cycle.
SECTION 04
Audit the build before the Heart
After the Lungs, confirm sustained damage without kills, output during active cooldowns, a stamina recovery window and clear attack angles around large organelles.
When room damage is already enough, buy movement, defense and tolerance. More sheet damage can leave the Heart build empty after its first long cycle.
- Save a screenshot of the pre-Heart wiring and change one variable after a loss.
- Use Last Room Damage to validate additions instead of rarity color.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do the Lungs require movement speed?
Movement helps, but speed alone does not fix slow startup or poor delivery. Prioritize a controllable dodge, safe turning and reliable damage.
Why does a good Liver run collapse in the Lungs?
Airflow and the larger room pool break stationary, kill-dependent and narrow-trajectory setups.
What is the best Lungs weapon?
There is no fixed answer. Current reports favor a small number of reliable outputs with deeper Infuser support over many independent weapons.
