BUILD LAB / BURN
Pathogenic Burn Build Guide: Oxidator, Overcharge, and Fast Hits
Burn is damage over time, not one hit. A good Burn setup does not collect every fire-looking part: it links repeatable energy, valid connections, and enough application speed into one working line.
SECTION 01
Choose a real Burn source
Pyroflagellum leaves a burning trail when you dodge, rewarding movement. Oxidator adds burn on hit and received a global burn-amount doubling in the July 22 official update. Toxisome applies toxin, which is a separate damage-over-time status.
SECTION 02
Scale with application speed
Lasers, fast projectiles, and repeated melee contact can apply Burn more often. Attraction effects keep enemies inside a beam or hit zone, but only when the Burn part is genuinely connected and its trigger is active.
- Make one Burn source dependable before adding another chain.
- Boss builds prioritize sustained single-target application; room builds need area or spread.
SECTION 03
Connect Overcharge and inspect rarity
Trace arrows from a Mitochondrion to each Burn part and confirm the generator can trigger repeatedly in combat. Rarity can alter strength or added behavior, but patch details move; do not evaluate an upgrade from an old screenshot alone.
SECTION 04
Measure Last Room Damage
Change one part or connection at a time and compare Last Room Damage in adjacent rooms. If output stalls, check arrow direction, generator triggers, hit rate, Burn-versus-toxin confusion, and whether a new body part blocks the original firing angle.
SECTION 05
Why Burn builds fail
Slow delivery, an inactive energy chain, zero mobility, or treating a player's thousand-point Burn clip as a required breakpoint all distort build decisions. Community extremes prove potential, not that ordinary drops can reproduce the same number.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Oxidator worth taking now?
The July 22 official patch doubled its Burn amount, so it is worth retesting when you can hit often and keep its chain powered.
Are Burn and toxin the same damage?
No. Both deal damage over time, but Toxisome's toxin does not automatically count as Burn or satisfy Burn-specific conditions.
